Stone is porous and unless it is correctly sealed, it will absorb any moisture that comes in contact with it. This is bad news if a stray wine glass or muddy footprints land on your precious floor.
Entertaining in your home or just day-to-day life can lead to stubborn stains on your valuable floor unless periodic sealant is professionally applied.
Unsealed stone in showers will constantly absorb water, causing it to release calcium, which will appear as white dripping stains which are difficult to clean.
Another common issue can be the constant filtering of water and consequent damage on the substrate creating bigger issues to the structure of your property.
It's best to avoid these types of headaches by sealing and regularly restoring and maintaining natural stone.
There are generally two types of sealer:
-Wet look, keeps the stone sealed and with a slight gloss finish, similar to a wet stone
-Dry look Keeps the stone sealed with a matt finish
Sealer should be applied every two years on an external area exposed to natural rain (which has an acidic pH level) and five years to a covered and protected area.
You should consult us or your stone provider on the best choice of sealer and it is extremely important that proper cleaning is completed prior to application.
